Interra Realty’s Joe Smazal reportedly sold more $2-million-plus multifamily buildings in the Chicago market than any other broker in 2020. His average deal size was about $5.6 million and 31 apartment units. Notable transactions included the $27-million sale of Vesta Lofts in the South Loop and the $9.6-million sale of 943 N. Crosby in River North.
Smazal’s transactions closed at strong pricing, which illustrated continued strength in the Chicagoland multifamily investment sales market. Getting them across the finish line required his creativity and persistence, given the market’s uncertainty and fluidity in 2020.
